White House on Sunday May 16, came in support of Israel reaffirming USA’s strong support for Israel’s right to defend itself against rocket attacks from Hamas and other terrorist groups in Gaza, and President Condemned these indiscriminate attacks against Israel.
This came in the backdrop of Hamas firing hundred of rockets into central Israel and Tel Aviv from Gaza strip on Monday, 10th May.
A tweet by The White House also read-
”The President also spoke with Palestine Authority President Abbas and conveyed a commitment to strengthening The US- Palestine partnership. They discussed a shared desire for Jerusalem to be a place of peaceful coexistence for all faiths and backgrounds”.
You’d be surprised to know that US president Harry S. Truman after taking office in 1945 appointed a committee to study the Palestine region and the conflict. He openly supported the recommendation to admit 100,000 displaced people into Palestine in May 1946 and in October 1946 declared his support for a Jewish state..
The former US president Donald Trump in Dec 2017 recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and ordered US Embassy in Tel Aviv to move to Jerusalem.
