Top 10 Forts Of India: India is the land of culture and heritage. Before the colonial rule, it was known as the Golden Bird. Kings and rulers have made their kingdom and land more beautiful with their fort, they also use to mark their victory by acquiring the forts of other kingdoms.

Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur

Considered as one of the most formidable and magnificent forts of Rajasthan, Mehrangarh fort was built by Rao Jodha in the year 1459. This fort has a lot of historical storied buried in it. It is one of the biggest fort in India within 5Km. It has seven gates, made by different rulers to mark their victories. The imprints of the impact of cannonballs fired by attacking armies of Jaipur can still be seen on the second gate. Towards the left side of Loha Pol (Iron Gate), there are around 15 or so handprint murals of former Queens, who committed sati in the year 1843. This fort became the first monument of India which was designated as UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983.

Kangra Fort, Kangra

One of the most prominent attractions of Kangra district, Kangra Fort is located at the outskirts of Kangra town and around 20 km from Dharamshala. The thick and solid walls protected the dignity of the royal family fromKangra in 1615. It is built strategically at the “Sangam” confluence (places where two rivers meet) of Banganga and Majhi rivers. You can also enjoy the famous Jayanti Mata temple on a hilltop. Golconda Fort, Telangana

It was originally known as Mankal, and built on a hilltop in the year 1143. Golconda Fort is located around 11 kilometers away from the Hyderabad city. The Golconda Fort used to have a vault where the famous Koh-i-Noor and Hope diamonds were once stored along with other diamonds. Golconda Fort is listed as an archaeological treasure on the official “List of Monuments” prepared by the Archaeological Survey of India. Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur

Jaigarh Fort is situated on the promontory called the Cheel ka Teela (Hill of Eagles) of the Aravalli range. The fort is also known as victory fort. The fort also boasts an assembly hall of warriors called Shubhat Niwas, a museum and an armoury.
