If ‘A Star Is Born’ a thing, Sushant Singh Rajput was that Star. If next SRK’s a thing SSR was the only name that came to minds of millions of Indians and his fans across world. A truly successful switch from television to Films. 

On 14 June 2021, it’d be year since the news of the death of Sushant Singh Rajput under mysterious circumstances came to light and shattered the hearts of millions. While Central bureau of Investigation is still investigating the homicide/suicide angle (nothing is ruled out yet as per sources) of his sad demise that happened on 14th June, 2020, a closure is very much required for his bereaved family and fans across the world. 

Early days-
He was born on 21 January 1986, in Patna. He was the beloved of his 4 elder sisters and his father. He lost his mother at the age of sixteen in 2002. This exceptional talented guy was interested in astrophysics and considered physics as his favorite subject. Also, he won the National Olympiad in Physics. He saw a dream with open eyes to become an astronaut and later, pilot. But due to the family pressure he enrolled himself in engineering college. And scored 7th rank in AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Exam)and took admission in Delhi College of Engineering.

Professional milestones :

During his college days he enrolled himself in dance classes and it became a first step of his career towards Acting. His passion and determination lead him to perform as a background dancer with Aishwarya Rai at the closing ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games. He also performed in many films as a background dancer. Later, he also started attending the theatre classes where he found himself interested in Bollywood and wanted to do it for life. Year 2008 became a milestone for him, when he took the second lead role in ”Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil” and put his engineering at stake. The overwhelming response of his acting by fans made Ekta Kapoor signed him the lead role in ‘Pavitra Rishta’ – a daily soap. He earned his first award for best actor in the Indian Television Academy Awards 2010 and many other awards made him popular even further. 

His love life also started from this show with the lead actress Ankita Lokhande. In 2010 he joined two reality shows (Zara Nachke Dikha 2 and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa) which made his fans love him more. He took exit from the show after two and half a year as he wanted to learn film making in Los Angeles. Then he was approached for movie Kai Po Che! Which made a tremendous contribution towards his film journey. He also played a titular but important to the plot- role in super hit film PK. His Shuddh Desi Romance was released in 2013 and became a sleeper hit. Following the release of his first two films (Kai Po Che, Shuddh Desi Romance ), Rajput was described by the veteran director Shekhar Kapur as “one of the most inspiring young actors to emerge out of India” and was occasionally referred to as the “next SRK”.

His role in Detective Byomkesh Bakshy was also appreciable.  Later, he start preparing for his movie paani, he was so excited for this movie, which was in collaboration with Yash Raj films and Shekhar Kapur. But in 2015 their contract ended as Yash Raj took a step back from this movie. On 25 September 2014, Sushant Singh Rajput was announced as the actor who would play the role of Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the biopic of former Indian skipper which was titled ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’ and directed by Neeraj Pandey.  Rajput showed his immense determination and passion while shooting for this movie; he practiced for 13 months to play cricket in Dhoni style.  It became the 5th highest grossing Bollywood film that year. He also made a cameo appearance in the comedy film Welcome to New York, which was released on 23 February 2018 and the lead characters met Rajput but confused him for Mahendra Singh Dhoni.  

Sushant Singh was featured for the first time in the Forbes India’s Top 100 Celebrity list, after his outstanding performance in ‘Raabta’ in 2015 with Kriti Sanon. His another movie SonChiraiya in 2017 didn’t do that well in box office. His movie Drive didn’t release due to creative disagreements between the director Mansukhani and the producer Karan Johar. Then came ‘Kedarrnath’, where Rajput co-starred with Sara Ali Khan, Following the release, it was the second highest grossing among Rajput’s starring films after the Dhoni biopic.

His last movie was remake of ‘the fault in our stars’-a 2014 Hollywood film starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, titled ‘Dil Bechara’ which made everyone cry. Due to the covid19 it was on hold for release but it was posthumously released on the streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar and became a record breaker in its first 24 hours viewership.
